    Beijing 2026, National Speed Skating Oval. On 26 August 2026 the organiser published official result bulletins as PDFs: full brackets for free combat at 40, 58 and 80 kg, with the winner, the score and the method of every bout. Forty-six entrants, no disqualifications, forty-three bouts. It is the first primary record in this sport published by the body that ran it.

    Free combat is a trial event: it arrived in the organiser's second batch of rules in June 2026, alongside table tennis, to test «dynamic interaction and compound movement under high-frequency confrontation». The full rulebook runs to 187 pages and the scoring is published in it. A knockdown the robot gets up from inside the ten-count scores six; failing to get up, or a broken chassis, is a knockout worth ten and the round. Standing still is a foul: fifteen seconds without an attacking move draws a warning, ten more costs a point. A robot must have head, hands, torso, arms and two feet, at least six degrees of freedom per leg and five per arm, and no battery over 60 volts.

    These are the rules of this competition. There is no such thing as “the rules of robot fighting”: every league writes its own, and that is why a bout here and a bout somewhere else are not the same event.

    Bout counts follow from the brackets: in a single-elimination draw every entrant but the champion loses exactly once, and byes are not bouts.

    Only the 80 kg draw is transcribed bout by bout — it is the one bracket that reads end to end in the organiser's PDF. In the other two the team names run off the edge of the page, so those arrive as podiums.

    This is the mechanism nobody covering the sport has reported, and it explains the review centre: if calling yourself autonomous doubles your coefficient across twenty events, there is a reason to say it without meaning it. All four annulled results are in events that carry the coefficient. None is in free combat, which does not.

    The state broadcaster is not a media partner here. It is a co-organiser, which is a different thing entirely when the question is who holds the rights.

    Published by the organiser's Fair Competition Technical Review Centre, which can void a result after the event. None of the four is a free combat result: all three combat brackets record zero disqualifications.

    The organiser reissues a result sheet when its own review changes one, and says which version governs. Three on 23 August 2026.

    An unresolved conflict

    The rules define two weight classes, 40 kg and 80 kg. The organiser published three sets of results: 40, 58 and 80 kg. The 58 kg class is real — it has an acta and a podium — but the amendment that created it is not something we have found published. We show the gap rather than tidy it away.

    Filed as CF-12 in the register of conflicts. We record both sides and resolve neither by our own judgement.
